The student learning outcomes for the degree are as follows:
- An ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline.
- An ability to analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution.
- An ability to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs.
- An ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal.
- An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities.
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- An ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.
- Recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development.
- An ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice.
- An ability to apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices.
- An ability to apply design and development principles in the construction of software systems of varying complexity.
This program helps you prepare for a career in computer science and for possible graduate study.
The B.S. program in computer science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc., 111 Market Place, Suite 150, Baltimore, MD 21202-402, telephone, 410-347-7700. In addition to satisfying the requirements of IPFW (see Part 7) and the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science (see Part 3), you must complete the following. Only computer science courses in which you have earned a grade of C or better can be applied to the degree or used to satisfy prerequisites. A maximum of 10 credits of D grades will be accepted in other courses.

One of the following Concentrations must be completed. Of the 12 required credit hours, 9 must be selected from one concentration and 3 from the other concentration area. With prior written approval from the Department, 3 credit hours may be chosen from CS 492, CS 494 or CS 495. Software Development Concentration
Network and Visual Computing Concentration
With permission of the advisor, up to 3 credits of concentration electives may be selected from among CS 492, CS 494, and CS 495. CS 200+ Elective (3 Credits)
